Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok visited low-income single-parent and multicultural families living in Yeonggwang on the 29th to personally check on their livelihoods.

Present at the site were Kang Jong-man, Yeonggwang County Governor, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly members Oh Mi-hwa and Jang Eun-young, and Ko Bong-ju, Director of the Yeonggwang County Family Center.

The visited family is of Vietnamese origin, with three children (two daughters and one son), and despite difficult circumstances, they have settled well in the local community and live exemplary lives.

They expressed their gratitude to Governor Kim, saying, “We sincerely thank you for increasing the low-income single-parent living support allowance (from 30,000 won to 50,000 won per recipient) and for supporting the purchase of educational materials and academy fees needed for multicultural children’s education.”

In response, Governor Kim said, “I am rather grateful for your hard work raising your children alone in a foreign country and living diligently with the responsibility of a mother,” and promised, “We will strive even more to ensure that low-income single-parent and multicultural families facing difficulties can live comfortably.”

Jeonnam Province plans to spend 37.8 billion won this year to provide more comprehensive welfare services to low-income single-parent families by supporting child-rearing expenses (210,000 won per child per month) and low-income single-parent living support allowances (50,000 to 70,000 won per month). There are 7,550 low-income single-parent households totaling 19,429 people in the Jeonnam area.

Additionally, 13.4 billion won will be invested to support multicultural families through multicultural exchange and communication spaces, support for children of multicultural families, multicultural specialization projects, and multicultural mother schools. There are 15,666 multicultural family households totaling 51,131 people in the Jeonnam area.
