On the 29th, Dong-gu District of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that it held the '1st Dong-gu Women’s Reserve Forces Meeting' to strengthen the reserve power of local reservists and enhance civil-military cooperation.
At the meeting, about 30 participants including Im Taek, Dong-gu District Mayor, Im Chang-jun, Dong-gu Reserve Forces Regional Commander, and Lee Eun-ah, Women’s Reserve Forces Platoon Leader, discussed the duties of women reservists, ways to spread and promote security awareness, and civil-military cooperation measures.
Since its establishment in October 2015, the Dong-gu Women’s Reserve Forces had been affiliated under the Dong-gu Reserve Forces Mobile Unit of the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Brigade, but this year, with the establishment of the Dong-gu Reserve Forces Regional Unit, it was incorporated into the Dong-gu Reserve Forces Regional Unit.
The Dong-gu Women’s Reserve Forces consist of five squads: platoon headquarters, medical relief 1 and 2, food relief, and mobile public relations, composed of diverse occupations such as full-time housewives, self-employed, and office workers.
During peacetime, they engage in security awareness campaigns and community relief and volunteer activities, and during wartime, they perform emergency patient care and assist in military operations, playing a key role in local security.
A Dong-gu official said, "We expect the role of the Dong-gu Women’s Reserve Forces to further strengthen the local security posture," adding, "As women reservists of Dong-gu, we hope they will do their best to set a positive precedent in security, relief, and volunteer activities."
