Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has been finally selected for the Ministry of Justice's 2024 Regional Specialized Visa Project competition.
Goseong-gun, which was selected for the pilot project in 2022, has secured continuity of the regional specialized visa project by being selected again in the 2024 competition.
The regional specialized visa project selected for Goseong-gun this time is for the category of outstanding local talent. It grants a special visa (F-2) to qualified outstanding foreigners on the condition that they reside mandatorily and work or start a business in areas experiencing population decline.
In 2022, Goseong-gun signed a business agreement with Geoje University and the Goseong-gun Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and as a result of recruiting participants, 80 people from eight countries including Vietnam and Nepal were recruited and employed at 20 local companies.
Based on these achievements, the county conducted a demand survey in December last year for the competition, setting the project scale at 50 people for six companies in three additional industries, and plans to actively promote the project following the selection.
Furthermore, with the enactment of the Special Act on the Space and Aviation Agency, it is expected that a large workforce will be needed due to the attraction of aviation-related industries, and the plan is to timely support excellent foreign personnel through the regional specialized visa project.
County Governor Lee Sang-geun said, “The regional specialized visa project can be an alternative to respond to local extinction caused by population decline,” adding, “We will establish a virtuous cycle structure of revitalizing local production and consumption by securing outstanding foreign talent.”
