An active-duty soldier who sexually assaulted teenagers including elementary and middle school students and illegally filmed them has been brought to trial.

On the 29th, the legal community reported that the Jeju District Prosecutors' Office indicted A, a full-time reservist in the Jeju area, on charges of violating the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles Against Sexual Abuse (production and distribution of sexual exploitation materials) and other offenses. A is accused of sexually assaulting middle school student B and elementary school student C and producing sexual exploitation materials from July 2022. This criminal activity was uncovered during a police investigation into sexual crimes against teenagers, when they analyzed C's mobile phone.

A assaulted B, whom he met by chance in July 2022, seven months before enlisting, sexually assaulting her 10 times and instructing her to film the scenes. It was confirmed that A produced seven pieces of sexual exploitation materials using this method.

Additionally, after enlisting as a full-time reservist in a local unit in March last year, A approached C, an elementary school student who was acquainted with B. Pretending to listen to her concerns and lowering her guard, he sexually assaulted her five times. A then pressured C by sending her the sexual exploitation materials he had made involving B, telling her to "write a review," and filmed six videos of his crimes against C. It is known that C is currently receiving psychiatric treatment.

A, who was arrested in August last year, reportedly made excuses during police interrogation such as "We had consensual sex" and "We like each other."

A is currently suspended from military service, and the unit plans to take related measures depending on the trial outcome. If A is sentenced to imprisonment of six months to less than one year and six months, he will be transferred to supplementary service after serving his sentence to complete the remaining service period. If he receives a prison sentence or detention of one year and six months or more, he will be discharged and transferred to wartime labor service.
