Daelim announced on the 29th that it has started construction of a new data center in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul.
The data center development is a project that Daelim has been promoting since establishing a joint venture with Australia's DCI Data Centers (DCI) in 2021. Daelim has led the entire development process, from project planning to site selection and acquisition, permits, and financing. Daelim's first data center will be built with one basement floor and eight above-ground floors, aiming for completion and service launch in 2025.
The project partner, DCI, is a company fully funded by Brookfield, a global asset management firm. It is recognized for its expertise in data center facility construction and operation. DCI will also operate the Gasan data center in the future. Currently, DCI holds a total of 130 MW of data center capacity across the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia, New Zealand, and Korea.
Daelim plans to actively expand its data center development business with various domestic and international partners, using this project as a stepping stone. With increasing demand for data centers from domestic and foreign IT companies and active entry of overseas cloud service providers into Korea, the related market is expected to steadily grow.
A Daelim representative said, "As digital transformation accelerates across all industries, demand for data centers is increasing, and long-term lease contracts can also provide stable revenue. We plan to expand our data center developer business by leveraging our accumulated experience in various real estate development sectors such as residential, office, retail, and logistics."
