Park Jaekyung Appointed Deputy Director of Korea Radio Promotion Association
ITU Radio Management Researcher, Asia-Pacific WRC Experience
Committed to Enhancing Korea's Wireless Communication Technology Competitiveness
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 29th that it will dispatch private experts to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to take the lead in the global 6G era.
To dispatch domestic 6G experts internationally, the Ministry of Science and ICT signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the dispatch of private experts to the ITU with Mario Maniewicz, Director of the ITU Radiocommunication Bureau. As a result, domestic experts will be dispatched to the ITU Radiocommunication Sector (hereinafter ITU-R) Study Group Department in April.
For this dispatch, the Ministry of Science and ICT and the ITU conducted a selection review over the past two months, and after a competition ratio of 10 to 1, Park Jae-kyung, Deputy Director of the Korea Communications Agency (KCA), was finally selected.
Since 2016, Deputy Director Park has served as a research member of the ITU Radiocommunication Management Study Group and as a member of the Asia-Pacific Regional World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) preparatory meeting. He has also continuously engaged in joint research activities, including submitting national contributions related to major policies and systems of Korea.

Deputy Director Park will perform cooperation related to future innovative mobile communication technologies such as 6G at the ITU-R Study Group Department and actively support ITU study group activities, thereby playing a role in enhancing Korea’s technological competitiveness in the wireless communication field and leading the international standardization of 6G.
The Ministry of Science and ICT has been striving to secure leadership in 6G frequency bands in preparation for the 6G era. At the WRC-23 held last year, international cooperation activities were carried out to discover 6G frequency resources, and three candidate 6G frequency bands proposed by Korea were finally adopted. A domestic expert also advanced as the chairperson of the Terrestrial Services Study Group (SG5), which oversees international standardization related to mobile communication technology and frequencies at the ITU.
Ha Jun-hong, Director of the Frequency Policy Division at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, "This expert dispatch will provide a good foundation for Korea to secure leadership on the international stage where discussions on discovering 6G frequencies will take place." He added, "We expect to strengthen our global influence in the wireless communication field by maximizing the reflection of our national interests on the international stage while performing a mediator role."
