Safe and Convenient Mobility Support Service for Pregnant Women and Infants... 5th Year of Operation with 7,100 Cumulative Members and 40,300 Trips
Seoul Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it will continue to operate the transportation service for pregnant women and families with infants and toddlers, called ‘I-Mom Taxi,’ this year as well.
‘I-Mom Taxi’ was first launched nationwide by Eunpyeong-gu in August 2020 to address the serious low birthrate issue and to protect pregnant women and infants from infections during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now in its fifth year, ‘I-Mom Taxi’ has shown convenience and high satisfaction through annual service improvements such as expanding destinations and providing hospital accompaniment services. As of this month, the cumulative number of registered members is 7,100, and the number of rides has reached 40,300.
The major advantage of ‘I-Mom Taxi’ is that it is not a regular taxi available to everyone, but an exclusive taxi service only for ‘I-Mom’ customers, operated by dedicated drivers. This was designed considering that vulnerable groups such as pregnant women and children under 24 months should be able to use the service safely without concerns about infectious diseases.
Additionally, the taxis are large vans capable of accommodating large strollers, equipped with car seats and in-vehicle air purifiers. Daily disinfection of the vehicle interior is mandatory to ensure thorough safety and hygiene management. Notably, ‘I-Mom Taxi’ can be used for long-distance trips to 14 major hospitals in the Seoul area, providing great benefits to users who need to regularly visit large hospitals.
Eligible users are pregnant women or families with children under 24 months residing in the district, who can use the service free of charge up to 10 times per year. Service applications can be made by registering as a member and making a reservation in advance through the dedicated mobile app ‘I-Mom Taxi.’
This year, the ‘Seoul Mom and Dad Taxi,’ modeled after Eunpyeong-gu’s ‘I-Mom Taxi,’ will be expanded to 25 autonomous districts. Applications for this service can be made through the ‘I.M (I.M) Taxi’ mobile app. Points worth approximately 100,000 KRW per infant are provided, and applications can be made not only by parents but also by grandparents or any primary caregivers raising infants under 24 months.
The district believes that using both ‘I-Mom Taxi’ and ‘Seoul Mom and Dad Taxi’ complementarily will greatly help the economic aspects and safe outings of families with infants and toddlers in the area.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, “We will continue to implement ‘I-Mom Taxi’ and ‘Seoul Mom and Dad Taxi’ in a complementary manner,” adding, “We will take the lead in making Eunpyeong a happy place to give birth to and raise children.”
