Busan Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) will launch a free public Wi-Fi service on village buses starting in February to improve information accessibility for residents and tourists using public transportation.
Gijang-gun has established a public Wi-Fi network on all 24 village buses in the area and will officially open the service on February 1. Passengers can access wireless internet by selecting ‘GIJANG Free WiFi’ in the Wi-Fi settings on their smartphones or laptops after boarding the village bus.
The public Wi-Fi can be freely used by passengers regardless of their mobile carrier, which is expected to help reduce the digital information gap among residents, lower communication costs, and promote local tourism through public transportation.
An official from the county stated, “We will expand convenient and fast public Wi-Fi service infrastructure throughout Gijang-gun to enhance communication convenience for residents and eliminate digital welfare blind spots.”
In addition to village buses, Gijang-gun is continuously expanding public Wi-Fi services in parks, major tourist sites, and bus stops frequently used by residents and tourists, currently operating 262 Wi-Fi units.
