The prosecution has additionally indicted Kim Gilsu (36), who escaped while receiving hospital treatment during detention, on charges of escape.
The Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Jundong) announced on the 26th that Kim was indicted on escape charges.
Kim is accused of escaping from a hospital where he was taken for treatment while under detention on suspicion of special robbery on the morning of November 4 last year. He was arrested on the night of the 6th, 63 hours later. Kim was on trial for special robbery, accused of approaching the victim as if requesting illegal money laundering, spraying tear gas, and extorting 740 million won.
The prosecution decided to suspend indictment against Woo, Kim’s ex-lover who helped him escape, considering her contribution to his capture.
The prosecution stated, "Through supplementary investigations including questioning the defendant’s younger brother and other related parties, interviewing the correctional officers guarding the scene, and analyzing on-site footage, we have clearly identified the motive, method, and escape route of the crime," and added, "We will make every effort to maintain the prosecution so that appropriate punishment corresponding to the crime can be enforced."
