The world's first artificial intelligence (AI) smartphone, the 'Galaxy S24 Series,' set a new record with 1.21 million units sold in domestic pre-orders.
Samsung Electronics announced on the 26th that the domestic pre-orders for the Galaxy S24 Series, conducted over a week from the 19th to the 25th, reached 1.21 million units. This figure includes both models sold through the three major mobile carriers and unlocked models.
This is the highest pre-order sales record in the history of the Galaxy S series. The previous record was held by the Galaxy S23 Series, released last year, which recorded 1.09 million units in pre-orders over one week. The Galaxy S24 Series surpassed this record within a year.
The highest pre-order sales record among Galaxy smartphones is held by the Galaxy Note10. This model recorded 1.38 million pre-orders in August 2019, but the pre-order period was 11 days. Comparing the daily average, the Galaxy S24 Series, with 1.21 million units sold over one week, averages about 173,000 units per day, surpassing the Note10’s approximately 125,000 units per day. Earlier, Samsung conducted a live broadcast on Samsung.com for about 90 minutes starting at midnight on the 19th, selling about 20,000 units during that time alone, setting a new record.
Looking at the sales distribution by model, the Galaxy S24 Ultra accounted for about 60% of the 1.21 million units. The Ultra is the highest-priced and highest-spec model in the Galaxy S24 Series. The Galaxy S24 Plus accounted for 21%, and the Galaxy S24 made up 19% of sales.
Regarding colors, the Galaxy S24 Ultra was most popular in Titanium Black, while the Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 were favored in Marble Gray. Among exclusive colors available on Samsung.com and Samsung Gangnam, Titanium Blue and Sapphire Blue were highly popular.
Customers who pre-ordered through the three major carriers can start activating their devices and using services from today. SK Telecom stated, "Customers in their 30s and 40s accounted for about 50% of all pre-order subscribers." LG Uplus reported, "Analysis of Galaxy S24 pre-order data shows a 25% increase compared to the previous Galaxy S23 Series."
The telecommunications industry believes that the Galaxy AI features introduced for the first time in the Galaxy S24 Series, along with significantly enhanced performance, have successfully captured consumers' interest.
The real-time translation supporting 13 languages is enabled on-device, allowing secure use without privacy concerns, and translation is supported in text and major messenger apps. The 'Circle to Search' feature, which provides an innovative search experience by simply circling an object, was also introduced for the first time and has received positive reviews.
Regarding the camera, numerous AI models have been adopted to enhance the camera experience from zoom to nightography, and AI-powered editing features such as generative editing have also been strengthened.
Pre-order customers can receive their products and activate them starting from the 26th, and after activation, they can apply for purchase benefits through the ‘Samsung.com’ application (app). The global official release date for the Galaxy S24 Series is January 31.
