Charges Including Abduction for Sexual Assault and Quasi-Forced Sexual Assault
The prosecution has appealed after former Miraedang leader Oh Taeyang was sentenced to two years in prison in the first trial on charges of sexually assaulting a drunken woman.
On the 26th, the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office announced that it had appealed to seek a heavier sentence for former leader Oh, who was detained and indicted on charges including sexual assault and quasi-forcible sexual assault.
Earlier, on the 19th, the 11th Criminal Division of the Seoul Eastern District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Byung-chul) sentenced former leader Oh to two years in prison and ordered him to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures, restrict employment at institutions related to children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities for five years, and register his personal information.
The court stated, "Former leader Oh denies the crime in this case and shows no remorse for the harm caused to the victim," adding, "He has not been forgiven by the victim and has made no efforts to restore the damage."
Former leader Oh is accused of taking a drunken woman who had collapsed on the street around 11 p.m. on May 15, 2022, to a nearby motel, sexually assaulting her, and taking her wallet without returning it. Previously, the prosecution requested a three-year prison sentence for former leader Oh and asked the court to order disclosure of personal information and employment restrictions.
