On the 25th, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, signed an agreement with Nowon Police Station, Nowon Fire Station, and Dongdaemun Mentos Hospital to operate a 24-hour public psychiatric emergency bed.
This is the first case among autonomous districts in Seoul to secure a 24-hour public bed within the city, rather than in Gyeonggi Province.
Through the agreement, Dongdaemun Mentos Hospital was designated as the ‘24-hour Nowon District Psychiatric Emergency Public Bed Medical Institution,’ and the secured public beds are exclusively available to Nowon residents.
Along with securing public beds, the roles of related agencies such as Nowon Police Station and Nowon Fire Station were systematically organized to cooperate in responding to psychiatric emergency situations.
It is expected that this agreement will resolve the difficulties of spending long hours transporting patients to medical institutions due to the lack of beds dedicated to 24-hour emergency situations, considering that there were 1,480 mentally disabled individuals in the district based on 2022 statistics.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, stated, “Many residents will feel reassured knowing that we have secured the capacity to respond quickly to psychiatric emergency patients,” and added, “We will continue to strive to improve the level of mental health care for residents and create a safe Nowon where everyone can live with peace of mind.”
