A firefighter who caused an accident while driving under the influence, collided with a police car that tried to stop him, and then fled the scene has been brought to trial.
The Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kwon Nae-geon) on the 25th arrested and indicted firefighter A on charges including obstruction of official duties causing injury after causing an accident while driving under the influence and ramming a police car before fleeing.
According to the prosecution, at around 12:20 a.m. on the 11th of this month, A was driving under the influence at the Hongdae Entrance Station intersection in Mapo-gu, Seoul, when he collided with a passenger car. He is accused of then ramming two police cars and a taxi that arrived in response to the report, and fleeing for about 2 km.
The prosecution first charged A with damaging police cars and injuring six police officers to evade a DUI checkpoint (special obstruction of official duties causing injury and damage to public property). Investigations into the charges of drunk driving and fleeing the scene are ongoing.
A is a current firefighter working at a fire station in Seoul and was reportedly already suspended from duty due to a previous drunk driving incident.
