The 2024 First Half Carbon Neutrality Forum was planned by Gwangyang Steelworks to further strengthen the execution power of carbon neutrality and take the lead in ‘Real Value Management’ that creates economic, social, and environmental value of companies in the ESG era. It was conducted in the form of close group discussions with related departments.
Starting with a presentation on global carbon neutrality trends by POSCO Management Research Institute, in-depth discussions were held on future visions such as ▲Green Steel and △Carbon Neutrality Roadmap, as well as ▲Hydrogen Reduction Steelmaking (HyREX), ▲Low-carbon Bridge Technology, ▲Electric Furnace Design and Business Promotion Status, and ▲Hydrogen Business and Steel Supply and Demand Plans to build infrastructure for carbon neutrality.
In particular, this forum was even more meaningful as it included technical discussions related to the new electric furnace, since POSCO successfully issued a 3-year maturity, 500 million dollar green bond in the overseas bond market on the 16th, and plans to invest the raised funds in a new electric furnace project with an annual capacity of 2.5 million tons.
Lee Dong-ryeol, Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, “It is very meaningful that departments working hard to achieve carbon neutrality gathered in one place to discuss. I thank those who came from far places such as Seoul and Pohang, and since the new electric furnace to be established at Gwangyang Steelworks is the first step toward carbon neutrality, it must be carried out with competitiveness.”
