Prosecutors Indict 40-Year-Old Korean-American Man for Attacking Pedestrian with Bladed Weapon

A Korean American man in his 40s has been indicted for injuring a passerby with a weapon.

The Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kwon Nae-geon) on the 25th indicted Mr. A on charges of aggravated assault for injuring a passerby he did not know by wielding a weapon on New Year's Day.

According to the prosecution, Mr. A, a U.S. citizen, is accused of swinging a knife at a man in his 20s whom he met for the first time in an alley in Seogyo-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul on the 1st, causing injuries requiring six weeks of medical treatment.

The police arrested Mr. A at around 8 p.m. the same day, about 40 minutes after the incident, at the temporary lodging where he was staying. It is reported that Mr. A was intoxicated at the time of his arrest.

After receiving the case, the prosecution confirmed Mr. A's medical history and determined that he did not commit the crime under a state of mental or physical disability, so they did not request treatment custody. The victim was provided with emergency medical expenses, and necessary support such as psychological counseling will continue.
