Oh Gwang-rok, a member of the Seo-gu Council in Gwangju Metropolitan City, proposed that "we must prepare for the Gwangjucheon Renaissance era."
Councilman Oh delivered a 5-minute free speech during the 1st plenary session of the 318th extraordinary meeting.
He stated, "The success of future food industry depends on Gwangjucheon, so let's create various ecological foundations utilizing it," and urged, "Opportunities do not come often, so we must not miss the chance when it comes."
He proposed preparing for the 'Gwangjucheon Renaissance era' in connection with the city's Y-belt project and suggested the separate installation of bicycle lanes and walking paths, which currently cause inconvenience to citizens. He also called for proactive changes for the ecological management of Gwangjucheon that harmonizes with residents' lives.
Earlier, Councilman Oh also proposed measures for the management and utilization of Gwangjucheon and the establishment of a dedicated organization for integrated management. Since the management of foul odors, weeds, and sports facilities along Gwangjucheon was not unified, residents experienced significant inconvenience due to fragmented administration.
Based on these proposals, Seo-gu established a river team this year through administrative organization adjustment to unify river-related tasks.
