Moorim Adds Eco-Friendliness to 'Pulp Mold'... Signs Business Agreement with Nanuwa

The Nation's First Application of Eco-Friendly Coating Technology

Moorim P&P is expanding its market with eco-friendly products.

On the 25th, Moorim P&P announced that it has signed a strategic business agreement (MOU) with Nanu, a startup possessing coating technology, to expand the de-plasticization market.

Through this MOU, Moorim P&P and Nanu will apply technology using biodegradable eco-friendly water-based coating on pulp molds for the first time in Korea. The strategy is to further enhance the durability of existing pulp molds to perfectly function as a plastic alternative.

Moorim P&P's pulp mold ‘moohae’ is made from Korea’s only natural raw pulp, characterized by hygiene, water resistance, and heat resistance. It has superior durability compared to regular paper products and is biodegradable and recyclable, making it usable in various fields such as food containers, packaging materials, and cushioning materials.

Unlike simple flat paper coatings, pulp molds have three-dimensional and diverse designs, making it challenging to apply coatings on their surfaces. There were concerns that applying general plastic-based coatings would compromise the product’s eco-friendliness.

However, it is expected that a pulp mold overcoming these technical limitations will be created through the collaboration between Nanu, which holds a patent for proprietary eco-friendly pulp mold coating technology, and Moorim P&P, equipped with the latest mass production facilities.

The durability of the pulp mold products themselves is also expected to improve. With the integration of eco-friendly coating technology, water resistance, heat resistance, and strength will be enhanced, allowing expanded application to hot food containers such as cup noodles and microwaveable instant food containers.

Im Yong-su, head of the pulp mold division at Moorim P&P, said, “This agreement marks a meeting of two leading companies in the pulp mold and coating technology fields, which will serve as an opportunity to elevate the level of domestic pulp molds.” He added, “We will focus our efforts this year on expanding the pulp mold market through the development of diverse products applicable in various fields, led by pulp molds with applied eco-friendly coating technology.”
