New District Unit Plan Established in Connection with Large-Scale Development in Noryangjin Area, Transforming It into a Landmark of the Southwest Region
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) is redrawing the blueprint to establish a reasonable development plan for Noryangjin Zones 9, 10, and 11 (around 84-11 Noryangjin-dong), which are preservation management areas within the Noryangjin Redevelopment Promotion District.
In 2006, Noryangjin and Daebang-dong areas (738,000㎡) were designated as the Noryangjin Redevelopment Promotion District, but among them, Noryangjin Zones 9, 10, and 11 (97,284㎡) were designated as preservation management areas because they did not meet the requirements.
Due to a lack of infrastructure and the aging low-rise residential environment, the need for urban management plans for this area has been continuously raised.
Accordingly, the district will newly establish a district unit plan for Noryangjin Zones 9, 10, and 11, linked with large-scale developments in the Noryangjin area such as Noryangjin New Town and the development of the southern end site of Hangang Railway Bridge.
Going forward, the district plans to develop and manage the area as a key location in the southwestern region, aiming to improve traffic conditions on major arterial roads (Deungyong-ro, Manyang-ro), create pleasant and convenient pedestrian pathways, and secure high-quality urban aesthetics.
The district plans to realize the optimal redevelopment plan by comprehensively reflecting future changes in Noryangjin’s conditions and residents’ opinions.
To establish Noryangjin as an international hub leading the future of South Korea, the district is promoting projects such as the construction of an AI and Robot Tech Town, development of the Noryangjin private station building, and fostering a new industrial education center.
Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, emphasized, “We will prepare innovative development and management plans covering not only Noryangjin Zones 9, 10, and 11 but the entire Noryangjin area,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that Noryangjin becomes a landmark leading the future of South Korea beyond Dongjak.”
