Dobong-gu Creates First Youth Space Inside District Office Building in Seoul

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that it will create the ‘Dobong-gu Youth Employment Support Center,’ a youth-only space within the district office building, becoming the first autonomous district in Seoul to do so.

The district will renovate part of the space on the first floor of the district office building, which was previously used as the district treasury, along with some leftover spaces, into a facility to support youth activities such as (re)employment.

Construction began in November last year and is underway with the goal of completion in March and opening in May this year. Of the 735 million KRW budget required for the construction, 700 million KRW was secured through the 2023 Seoul Metropolitan Government special grant.

The newly established ‘Dobong-gu Youth Employment Support Center’ will cover an area of 196㎡ and will be equipped with facilities such as a video interview room, suit rental room, interview photo studio, professional counseling rooms, and study spaces.

The district listened to the voices of young people and conducted multifaceted reviews for the space design. Since January last year, surveys on space utilization were conducted targeting youth, and opinions from youth participating in the Dobong-gu Youth Network activities were collected. Additionally, case studies were conducted by visiting 12 youth facilities.

A district official stated, “Since this is a space for young people, their opinions were prioritized,” adding, “We are confident that all young visitors will be satisfied.”

Along with the space creation, the district plans to operate various employment support programs. These include interview support services such as suit rental and interview photo shoots, as well as programs like mentoring by current professionals, employment consulting, and vocational aptitude tests.

Furthermore, special lectures on economic and financial education for young workers, SNS utilization training, and customized one-on-one professional counseling covering employment, housing, welfare, and psychological support for youth are being planned.

The budget required for program operation was secured through the ‘2023 Seoul Metropolitan Wide Job Cafe Creation Project’ contest, guaranteeing up to approximately 600 million KRW over three years from 2024 to 2025.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “We want to provide office space for young people, who are an important generation responsible for the future,” and added, “We will support the dreams of young people through various youth support programs here.”

Meanwhile, on January 22, a site inspection was conducted by Mayor Oh Eon-seok, district officials, and construction managers. On that day, Mayor Oh carefully checked safety management and progress status to ensure there were no deficiencies in the space creation.
