54% Implementation of Gwanak-gu Campaign Promises Including Gwanak S Valley 2.0

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) held a ‘Pledge Project Progress Report Meeting’ to thoroughly review the progress in order to steadily advance the major pledge projects promised to the residents.

Under the core principles of innovation, inclusion, and cooperation in the 8th local government administration, the district established six major goals?▲Together Economy ▲Together Welfare ▲Youth Special City ▲Top Education and Culture ▲Clean and Safe Living Environment ▲Innovative Gwanak Office?with 60 action tasks, and has been vigorously working to realize ‘Together Top Gwanak-gu.’

As a result, the district has achieved a 54% implementation rate of the 8th local government pledge projects within one and a half years since July.

First, meaningful achievements stand out in the ‘Together Economy’ sector. The district has focused on fostering ‘Gwanak S Valley’ through the creation of a startup support fund worth 25.9 billion KRW and the solid operation of 16 startup support facilities. Based on this, recently, two companies located in Gwanak S Valley won the ‘Innovation Award’ at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2024) hosted by the Consumer Technology Association in the United States.

The district is also striving to realize ‘Together Welfare’ to become the nation’s leading inclusive city. This includes the opening of the Gwanak Disability Happiness Center, operation of the Gwanak Family Center, continuous identification of welfare blind spots, and active support for stable living for vulnerable groups such as single-person households, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

As the city with the highest youth population ratio nationwide, projects in the ‘Youth Special City’ sector are progressing rapidly with a 68.8% implementation rate. Customized social and economic youth policies are smoothly advancing, including the establishment of Seoul’s first ‘Youth Culture Bureau,’ the opening of the comprehensive youth activity hub ‘Gwanak Youth Center,’ support for the Eutteum Gwanak Youth Savings Account, and provision of housing stability information.

The district is also taking a step closer to ‘Top Education and Culture.’ It is creating diverse educational environments for all age groups through support for improving educational environments, expanding lifelong learning courses in cooperation with Seoul National University, youth talent development programs, and support for school-specific specialization projects. Additionally, it is promoting local unique culture by strengthening the Kang Gam-chan brand power and fostering Gwanak as a cultural city.

In particular, the activation of customized community sports and the creation of high-quality sports facilities, such as a dedicated soccer stadium and a park golf course, are being smoothly advanced with completion targeted for this year.

Furthermore, the district is making multifaceted efforts to create a pleasant and safe ‘Clean and Safe Living Environment’ in Gwanak. It is developing the local landmark Byeolbitnaerimcheon (Dorimcheon) into a specialized space linked with the Sillim Line station, and focusing on installing closed-circuit televisions (CCTV), expanding public parking lots, and establishing a carbon-neutral city.

Moreover, full efforts are being made to promote ‘Innovative Gwanak Office’ in cooperation with residents. By operating the Gwanak Office, holding creative proposal contests, and running cooperative public forums, residents’ opinions are collected and reflected in pledge execution, realizing a communication-based administration.

The district plans to continue identifying internal and external factors that may affect pledge implementation due to changes in external conditions, analyze causes, and prepare countermeasures, dedicating all efforts to keeping promises made to residents.

Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, stated, “With the belief that ‘fulfilling promises is the core of district administration,’ we will continue our efforts to earn the trust of residents.”
