Nearly 2,000 people in China succeeded in spinning tops simultaneously, breaking the Guinness World Record.
On the 23rd, China Daily and others reported that on the 20th, an event challenging the world record for the 'most people spinning tops simultaneously' was held at the Songhegang Ecotourism Scenic Area in Jingyu County, Jilin Province, with 1,946 participants.
This challenge was held as a preliminary event to boost the atmosphere for the 1st China Jilin Songhegang Skating Marathon, which will take place from the 30th of this month to the 3rd of next month. Participants wearing red vests spun tops on the ice rink simultaneously for at least five minutes, breaking the previous world record held by China. The previous record was 1,000 people.
Guinness World Records official Wu Xiaohong said, "Through the unity and cooperation of the participants and their relentless efforts, the original record of 1,000 people was broken and a new record was set." Spinning tops is a common hobby in China and is estimated to have a history of 4,000 years. The Guinness World Records official presented the world record certificate to the organizers at the site that day.
Meanwhile, the number of participants was set to 1,946 to commemorate the renaming of Mengjiang County in Jilin Province to Jingyu County in honor of General Yang Jingyu, a Chinese anti-Japanese fighter who died in 1940, the newspaper reported.
