Former Law Minister Deputy Lee Young-wook Passes Away

Former lawmaker Lee Young-wook, who served as Deputy Minister of Justice and Director of the Judicial Research and Training Institute, passed away due to old age at his home in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, around 9:30 PM on the 21st, according to his family. He was 92 years old.


Born in 1932 in Masan, Gyeongnam, he graduated from Masan Commercial High School and Seoul National University School of Law, and passed the 8th Higher Civil Service Examination in the judicial category in 1956. He gained recognition as a capable investigative prosecutor, notably leading the investigation into the Daegu 'Geumbokju President Threat Case.' He served as Deputy Minister of Justice in 1981, Director of the Judicial Research and Training Institute in 1983, and was elected as a proportional representation candidate of the Democratic Justice Party in 1985, serving as a member of the 12th National Assembly.


He is survived by his wife Byun Yang-ja, daughter Lee Sun-hee (professor at Sungkyunkwan University School of Law), son Lee Seok-hwan (CEO of Hana Energy), and son-in-law Kim Woo-jin (presiding judge at Seoul High Court). The funeral is being held at Samsung Seoul Hospital Funeral Hall, Room 15.
