Gwangjin-gu, Food Safety Inspection Ahead of Seollal Holiday

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will conduct food safety inspections on 448 food manufacturing and sales businesses in the area until February 2nd, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.

This inspection is a measure to strengthen hygiene and safety for agricultural, marine, and livestock products, processed foods, and health functional foods, which are often used as gifts or for ancestral rites during the Lunar New Year.

To this end, the Gwangjin-gu Public Health Center will form 20 inspection teams of two people each, including consumer food hygiene monitors, to carry out the inspections.

The main inspection items include ▲ compliance with hygiene standards ▲ handling of unreported or unlabeled foods ▲ health checkups for workers ▲ appropriateness of health functional food labeling and advertising ▲ country of origin labeling, and collection tests will also be conducted for high-consumption seasonal foods (such as Hangwa, rice cakes, and other ancestral and holiday foods).

The district will take administrative actions against violating businesses according to the law, prohibit the sale and recall of non-compliant products, and ensure they do not circulate in the market.

Additionally, businesses that receive administrative sanctions will be re-inspected within six months to verify improvements.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We will do our best to ensure the safety of food through thorough food safety inspections so that residents can have a safe and happy Lunar New Year holiday.”
