Goryeong Cultural Center Contributes to Local Living Culture Development ... Commendation from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism

Goryeong Cultural Center in Gyeongbuk (Director Shin Tae-woon) received a commendation from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Yoo In-chon) in recognition of its contribution to spreading lifestyle culture and promoting local culture by participating in the lifestyle culture community revitalization project.

Goryeong Cultural Center recognized for contributing to the development of local living culture, awarded the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Commendation.

Selected last year in the “2023 Basic Unit Lifestyle Culture Expansion Support - Everyone’s Lifestyle Culture” contest hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Local Culture Promotion Agency, Goryeong Cultural Center has been striving to promote lifestyle culture to local residents through the project “Goryeong! Embracing Culture (文化).”

Specifically, they developed a total of 409 lifestyle culture programs tailored to local characteristics, such as “Embracing Goryeong” and the “Market Day Campaign,” encouraging voluntary and active participation from residents. Additionally, 11 villages were selected to create “Visiting Lifestyle Culture Programs” aimed at culturally marginalized groups in rural communities.

This award is the first ministerial commendation received since the establishment of Goryeong Cultural Center, marking a meaningful recognition of the center’s role as a hub that has built a differentiated foundation for lifestyle culture unique to Goryeong and strengthened the cultural capabilities of its residents.

Shin Tae-woon, Director of Goryeong Cultural Center, said, “I believe this commendation recognizes our efforts to provide opportunities for cultural enjoyment to Goryeong residents and to promote balanced cultural and artistic development in the region without leaving anyone behind. We will use this award as a driving force to further contribute to establishing a foundation for the revitalization of lifestyle culture unique to Goryeong and to serve as a central pillar of local culture.”

County Governor Lee Nam-chul said, “I am pleased that the various efforts made by Goryeong Cultural Center to open a rich cultural space for local residents have been recognized with this commendation. Going forward, Goryeong County will continue to work with Goryeong Cultural Center to enhance residents’ cultural satisfaction and will not spare interest and support.”
