Commemorative Event with Citizens and Master Plan Also Announced

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam is preparing a special commemorative event in April to mark the 50th anniversary of the designation of the Changwon National Industrial Complex. At the same time, in collaboration with Gyeongnam Province and the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, the city plans to further activate the Development Council and announce a master plan to prepare for the next 50 years.

Changwon Special City, 50th Anniversary of Changwon National Industrial Complex ... Full-Scale Preparation for the Next 50 Years Seo Jeong-guk, Director of the Future Strategy Industry Bureau, is explaining about the Changwon Industrial Complex.

On January 8, the city formed a TF team called the ‘Changwon National Industrial Complex 50th Anniversary Commemoration Promotion’ and held an inauguration ceremony to draw a blueprint for the next 50 years alongside the 50th anniversary event, officially beginning preparations.

Changwon Special City selected four core tasks for the 50th anniversary: ▲ Changwon National Industrial Complex 50th Anniversary Development Council ▲ Establishment of a mid- to long-term master plan for the Changwon National Industrial Complex ▲ Creation of a symbolic sculpture ▲ Discovery of events linked to the 50th anniversary.

The ‘Changwon National Industrial Complex 50th Anniversary Development Council,’ launched last March with 20 opinion leaders from industry, academia, and research, will be further activated and elevated to a permanent organization. Through multiple discussions, the council proposed six development strategies for the advancement of the Changwon National Industrial Complex: ▲ Smartization ▲ Talent cultivation ▲ Improvement of operating rates ▲ Spatial reorganization ▲ Expansion of urban infrastructure ▲ Startup support. The council plans to continue regular discussions to function as a think tank for the Changwon National Industrial Complex.

The mid- to long-term master plan for the Changwon National Industrial Complex, which was also proposed by the Development Council, will be established and announced on the day of the 50th anniversary commemorative event. The master plan project, which has been underway since the end of last year, is currently undergoing interim adjustments. The plan aims not only to design a vision for the next 50 years but also to establish implementation strategies and detailed projects simultaneously, so that they can be reflected in future central government budgets.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the designation of the Changwon National Industrial Complex, a symbolic sculpture will be created within the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation’s Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters. The planned site is located at the center of Changwon-daero, serving as the control tower of the Changwon National Industrial Complex, and forms a vertical axis with Gyeongnam Provincial Office?Changwon Square (Choi Yoon-deok Statue). The sculpture will embody memories and gratitude for the efforts of companies, workers, and citizens. After completing the contract in February, an unveiling ceremony will be held in line with the 50th anniversary event.

The city will adjust the timing and themes of various existing festivals and events to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the industrial complex designation. The Corporate Love Citizen Festival will be held during the commemorative week. Additionally, cultural events such as the ‘Municipal Choir Veranda Concert,’ which received great acclaim for allowing residents to enjoy concerts from their apartment balconies, will also be rescheduled and held during the event week. Furthermore, a D-100 day promotional strategy will be established to carry out publicity through various means such as media advertisements and new media, and promotional campaigns targeting resident organizations from towns and villages will be conducted to create a festive atmosphere throughout the city.

Seo Jeong-guk, Director of the Future Strategy Industry Bureau, said, “2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the designation of the Changwon National Industrial Complex, which has driven economic and industrial development over the past 50 years. We will do our best to establish a preparation system for the leap forward in the next 50 years.” He added, “We hope that citizens will empathize with and participate in the 50th anniversary commemorative events, enhancing the pride of Changwon Special City residents.”
