Busan Sasang African Swine Fever Positive... Candidate Kim Daesik "Prompt Response Needed to Prevent Consumption Decline"

Focus on Epidemiological Investigation and Quarantine, Urge Ensuring Safety and Alleviating Anxiety

A preliminary candidate for the general election is drawing attention by demanding measures against African Swine Fever (ASF) through channels such as Facebook and press releases.

Rather than election issues that directly attract residents' votes, such as 'establishment and founding' or 'budget securing' pledges, this demand targets the government, suggesting a strategy to focus on regional safety.

Kim Daesik, a preliminary candidate of the People Power Party in Sasang-gu, Busan, recently called for thorough countermeasures following the confirmation of the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus in a wild boar captured in Eomgwangsan, Sasang-gu.

ASF was confirmed last month at a pig farm in Yeongdeok, Gyeongbuk, and this year, wild boars in the Busan area also tested positive, raising concerns about nationwide spread. The wild boar confirmed with ASF in Sasang-gu was captured on the 14th and tested positive on the 18th.

Candidate Kim requested through Facebook and press releases, "We must actively respond to public safety," and urged, "Busan City and related ministries should immediately mobilize quarantine capabilities and administrative power to fully ensure the safety of Sasang-gu residents and alleviate their anxiety."

He also stated, "Although African Swine Fever does not infect humans, it is a highly contagious malignant livestock epidemic," and added, "If livestock farmers and workers in the food service and dining industries, who are currently suffering from high interest rates and high prices, face a double hardship of reduced consumption due to this, legislative and administrative follow-up measures should be taken to provide sufficient support."
