Haenam-gun Accelerates Efforts to Create an Eco-Friendly Smart Green City

Resource Circulation Hub Eco Platform Center Opens in March... 'Resource Circulation No.1 Zone'

Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do is accelerating the creation of an eco-friendly smart green city to establish a resident-participatory resource circulation system.

According to the county on the 18th, it was selected for the government’s Smart Green City contest in 2020 and is currently promoting the “Smart Resource Circulation Village Creation Project” with a budget of 10 billion KRW to address various environmental issues.

The main projects include the establishment of an integrated resource circulation platform, the creation of five neighborhood recycling banks, installation of 30 unmanned collection machines, and installation of smart CCTVs, all of which have been completed and are operating smoothly.

In particular, the Haenam Eco Platform Center (tentative name), which will serve as a resource circulation and education hub space directly involving residents, will be completed in March this year.

The center, built with a total floor area of 1,114.48㎡ and three stories above ground, will operate as a multipurpose complex facility including a recycling exchange center that awards points for bringing in clean recyclables, a refill shop where customers bring containers to fill with needed items, a sharing space for used goods, an AR·VR three-dimensional resource circulation experience hall, and an eco lounge as a resting area.

Points accumulated through the resident-participatory resource circulation project can also be used at the refill shop and eco lounge within the Eco Platform Center, and large waste disposal applications can be easily made online.

Furthermore, an integrated platform will be established by linking with Haenam Sotong Net, a dedicated app for residents, allowing users to check their participation status in resource circulation projects and carbon reduction amounts at a glance.

Haenam-gun has revised related systems such as enacting ordinances, forming councils, and planning operational guidelines to systematically operate the Smart Resource Circulation Village creation.

Meanwhile, since 2021, Haenam-gun has been creating exemplary cases of resource circulation through the resident-participatory resource circulation project “Ttangkkeut Hope.”

The Ttangkkeut Hope project is a recycling reward system that awards points by item category when recyclable products are brought in. Last year, the project collected 56 tons of transparent PET bottles and 143 tons of recyclables in total.

A county official stated, “With the activation of the resource circulation project, high-quality separated waste disposal is being encouraged, and the practice of carbon neutrality, an ESG ethical management task, is spreading with residents’ participation. We plan to continuously expand the Ttangkkeut Hope project along with installing a recycling exchange center within the Eco Platform facility.”
