Development of 4 Types Including Cut-Resistant Jackets and Neck Protectors
Accelerating Mass Production and Field Distribution Preparation
The National Police Agency has entered the final stages of preparation for the field distribution of four types of new customized stab-resistant suits.
The National Police Agency announced on the 18th that it secured a budget of 12.43 billion KRW last year for safety equipment and is accelerating preparations for mass production and field distribution of the four new stab-resistant suits. This year, an additional 1.4 billion KRW has also been secured.
In the atmosphere where citizens have been exposed to the risk of attacks during their ordinary daily lives due to a series of knife rampages last year, the safety of frontline police officers, who must protect the public, is also being threatened, increasing the necessity for safety equipment such as stab-resistant suits.
Accordingly, the National Police Agency conducted an in-depth analysis of the existing distributed bulletproof and stab-resistant suits and the insert-type stab-resistant pads for outdoor vests, identifying some discomforts in actual field use such as heavy weight, stiff fit, limited mobility, and intensified forward tilting when worn. Based on the judgment that distributing highly practical and frequently used safety equipment in the field is the top priority, they have officially started developing new equipment.

They developed four types of new stab-resistant suits: multifunctional stab-resistant suits that are easy to carry (3,806 units), inner-layer stab-resistant suits that can be worn under coats or uniforms (13,862 units), cut-resistant jackets designed like plain clothes to enhance mobility (8,567 units), and neck protectors specialized to protect the neck area, which can be fatally injured in sudden attacks (1,400 units). These pieces of equipment were created after two years of continuous communication with the field by the Equipment Operations Division of the National Police Agency, discovering field-customized items and researching and developing their structure and composition.
A police official emphasized the importance by stating, “Equipment necessary for field duties is naturally an extension of scientific policing, and developing the most practical and safest equipment is also an important area of scientific policing.”
The National Police Agency plans to establish the ‘Police Equipment Manual’ theory and actual work alignment through field distribution of safety equipment along with promotion and education for staff to enhance safety immunity.
