Professor Kim Mi-hee of Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital awarded 'Excellent Paper Award' by the Korean Association of Internal Medicine

Professor Kim Mi-hee of the Department of Hematology at Chosun Jeonnam National University Hospital was selected for the excellent paper award in the hematology-oncology field for the second half of 2023 by The Korean Journal of Internal Medicine, the official English journal of the Korean Association of Internal Medicine.

The Korean Association of Internal Medicine annually selects one outstanding paper per field from those published in its official SCIE-level international journal, The Korean Journal of Internal Medicine, during the first and second halves of the year and presents awards accordingly.

Professor Kim's paper is titled "The prognostic impact of reduced variant burden in elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia treated with decitabine."

This study discovered the prognostic significance of reduced genetic burden in elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia who received hypomethylation therapy.

In particular, the paper was honored for revealing that prognosis varies depending on the genetic mutations at diagnosis and the degree of reduction in genetic variant burden after the fourth treatment.

Recognized as a promising researcher in various hematologic diseases and myeloid hematologic malignancies, Professor Kim stated, "This research can help predict early treatment response to hypomethylation therapy and assist in establishing the optimal treatment direction to improve patient prognosis."
