'Galaxy S24 Ultra' Featuring Titanium Material

Samsung Electronics' ambitiously unveiled Galaxy S24 series features innovative functions utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology. It offers unprecedented experiences including real-time translation, automatic search using generative AI, and flexible photo and video editing. The S24 will be sequentially released worldwide, including in South Korea, starting from the 31st.

Connecting Beyond Borders... Supports Thai and Vietnamese Languages

Unveiled on the 17th (local time), the Galaxy S24 series expands users' lives beyond borders without language barriers. The real-time translation function effectively breaks down language walls. It supports 13 languages including English, Hindi, Polish, Thai, and Vietnamese. There is no longer a need to create foreign language sentences in translation applications and then read them again when booking restaurants or hotels abroad. Real-time translation is available not only for phone calls but also for face-to-face conversations, text messages, and chat apps. When speaking in one's native language, it is automatically converted into a foreign language. Since it operates on an on-device basis without passing through cloud servers, security concerns are reduced and fast data processing is possible.

The ‘Note Assist’ feature is also equipped, which summarizes and organizes texts or memos written in Samsung Notes and converts them into meeting minutes format. When recording meetings with the voice recording app, it provides scripts by speaker for up to 10 people.

"Just Draw a Circle"

The collaboration with Google also stands out. The ‘Circle to Search’ feature, born from the cooperation between the two companies, is included for the first time. The cumbersome process of opening a portal search window to search for desired content is eliminated. By long-pressing the home button on the visible screen and drawing a circle or underlining an image or word on the screen, the search for the desired target is conducted in the Google window.

When drawing a circle around a travel spot seen on social media, an overview of information including the name, location, and history is provided. If additional questions such as ‘the best time to visit that city’ are asked using the search window, answers can also be received. This became possible through ‘Gemini,’ a generative AI developed by Google. At the unpacked event, Hiroshi Lockheimer, Senior Vice President of Google Platform & Ecosystem, and John Bain, Vice President of Corning Mobile Consumer Electronics, took the stage to confirm the strong partnership with Samsung.

AI Features Also Integrated into the Camera

Equipped with an AI-based ‘Pro Visual Engine,’ it delivers stable image quality from zoom functions to ‘Nightography.’ Especially in the ‘Galaxy S24 Ultra’ model, the series’ first ‘Quad Tele System’ provides optical-level high resolution for 2x, 3x, 5x, and 10x zoom. The new 50-megapixel adaptive pixel sensor supporting 5x zoom and AI technology deliver stable results regardless of shooting distance, including 10x zoom. The Nightography function has also improved, allowing clean and shake-free photos and videos even when using zoom in low-light nighttime environments.

AI features are also incorporated into the editing functions of the ‘Gallery’ app. The generative AI-based ‘Generative Editing’ function has attracted attention. Experiences of slightly tilted photos or cropped backgrounds that were disappointing are expected to decrease with the S24. AI fills in partially cropped objects and corrects them into natural photos. If you want to move or resize a subject within a photo, simply long-press the subject. All images created based on generative AI are marked with a ‘watermark.’ This allows anyone viewing the image to confirm that the image was generated or edited by AI.

Ultra Model Boasts the Most Powerful Performance and Durability

The S24 series is categorized into the base, Plus, and Ultra models. The base and Plus models have sizes similar to their predecessors but feature reduced bezels, resulting in larger displays. They are equipped with Samsung Electronics’ self-developed application processor (AP), the Exynos 2400. The Ultra, boasting the most powerful performance among all Galaxy models, is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 optimized for Galaxy. The Ultra uses Corning’s new glass on the display, which reduces light reflectance by up to 75% compared to regular glass, and the device applies titanium material. The thickness is reduced, improving grip comfort.

Pre-orders begin in South Korea from the 19th to the 25th, with sequential global release starting on the 31st. The base and Plus models are priced starting at 1,155,000 KRW and 1,353,000 KRW respectively, the same as their predecessors, while the Ultra starts at 1,698,400 KRW, about 100,000 KRW higher.

At the event, Samsung Electronics also previewed the release of the smart ring ‘Galaxy Ring’ with a teaser video. The Galaxy Ring is known as a wearable device that tracks and monitors health, fitness, and sleep-related information.
