The National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK) announced on the 18th that it will hold the first NAEK Forum of the year at 5 p.m. on the 22nd at L Tower in Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul. The NAEK Forum is a policy discussion meeting hosted by the Academy of Engineering since 1998.
The forum's theme is "Nanotechnology! The Game Changer in the Era of Super-Gap." Youngjin Choi, Director of the National Research Headquarters at the National Research Foundation of Korea, will lead the forum. Jinwoo Cho, Director of the Materials, Components & Energy Research Institute at the Korea Electronics Technology Institute, will deliver the keynote speech. Panelists include Taek-Hwan Hyun, Distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Seoul National University and a world-renowned expert in the nano field, Ki-Tae Nam, Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Seoul National University, Jeongsoo Lee, Advisor at LG Electronics, Hyuk Jang, Advisor at Samsung SDI, and Jongguk Lee, Executive Director at Hyundai Motor Company.
In his keynote speech, Director Cho will share the role of nanomaterials, the importance of securing technological superiority, and the challenges faced. Director Choi will lead discussions on the latest status of nanomaterials and technologies in various fields such as carbon neutrality, secondary batteries, and bio, as well as the requirements of demand companies.

The Academy of Engineering plans to continuously invite government officials to the forum. Nanomaterials are a key tool to lead Korea's industrial "super-gap," but the development period is longer than that of conventional materials. Enormous costs are required to secure mass production and reliability. Government support is essential.
Soongguk Hong, Chair of the Materials and Resources Engineering Division at the Academy of Engineering, said, "While the private sector should lead nanotechnology development, it is very important for the government to consistently show interest and provide support," adding, "The forum will contribute to fostering organic cooperation among industry, academia, and research institutes to achieve industrial super-gap through nanotechnology."
The Academy of Engineering is regarded as the most prestigious academic organization in the field of engineering technology in Korea. The NAEK Forum has been held as a policy discussion meeting by the Academy since 1998.
The NAEK Forum is held on the last Monday of every odd-numbered month, six times a year. It invites members of the Academy of Engineering as well as heads of related industrial technology institutions. The next forum is scheduled for March 25, with the theme "Korea's Defense and K-Defense Industry Ecosystem."
