Masterton Investment Management, a specialized alternative investment asset management company, announced on the 18th that it is actively conducting diverse ESG activities at the real estate asset level.
Last month, Bundang M Tower, one of the representative managed assets of Masterton Investment Management, delivered used mobile phones and batteries to the 'Sudogwon Resource Circulation Center.' This was a measure following the 'Used Mobile Phone Donation Campaign' conducted for employees of tenant companies at Bundang M Tower over the course of a month.
This ESG project was based on the idea that donating unused used mobile phones, chargers, and batteries allows for the recycling of recyclable resources such as gold and silver inside. It safely processes heavy metals and harmful substances that could leak from used mobile phones and recycles valuable resources. It also considered the aspect of preventing personal information leakage concerns when used mobile phones are illegally exported.
The profits generated from this process were planned as a public interest campaign that benefits both the environment and the local community by helping those in need. All profits from the resource recycling process of used mobile phones will be donated to the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation, a social welfare corporation.
Bundang M Tower, located in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, is an eco-friendly asset certified under the global green building certification system LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). It has received high evaluations for applying eco-friendly outdoor management techniques, purchasing eco-friendly products, and accessibility to public transportation.
Moreover, Bundang M Tower is recognized as an exemplary ‘ESG asset’ actively participating in various social activities. Last year, it participated in the global nature conservation campaign ‘Earth Hour’ organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and also joined the ‘Energy Day’ event led by the Korea NGO’s Energy Network. Additionally, employees of Masterton Investment Management and partner company staff at Bundang M Tower conducted environmental cleanup and ecological exploration activities near the building ahead of the International Day for Biological Diversity.
Masterton Investment Management encourages diverse ESG activities at the asset level it manages. As an alternative investment asset management company with strengths in real estate, it believes that utilizing the tangible and intangible values of spaces for public interest purposes is a more effective and meaningful ESG approach.
Not only Bundang M Tower but also the Concordian Building located on Saemunan-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul, is actively engaging in building-level ESG activities. A public interest children sponsorship campaign booth has been set up in the lobby space of the Concordian Building. This space was prepared in collaboration between Masterton Investment Management and the UNICEF Korea Committee. Tenants and visitors of the Concordian Building can freely participate in sponsorship through various experiential spaces such as a children’s photo exhibition, relief goods display, and mirror photo zone, as well as an electronic donation box placed inside the booth.
Lee Gil, Vice President of the Management Division at Masterton Investment Management, said, “As a specialized alternative investment asset management company, we deeply consider methodologies and ESG strategies that can spread positive influence to society,” adding, “We will continue to promote diverse forms of ESG activities with the social value of building spaces in mind.”
