A man who disguised himself as a woman and entered a supermarket women's restroom to illegally film was caught by the police.
On the 17th, the Bundang Police Station announced that they had formally charged a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, with violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (filming using a camera, etc.) and other related charges.
Mr. A is suspected of entering the women's restroom at a supermarket located in Gumi-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, at around 10:11 p.m. on the 12th, and illegally filming Ms. B's body by inserting his cellphone under the partition.
When Ms. B realized the illegal filming and shouted, nearby citizens cooperated to apprehend Mr. A. At the time, Mr. A was reportedly disguised as a woman, wearing a long-haired wig, stockings, and high-heeled shoes.
The police, who responded to the report, confirmed the illegal filming videos on Mr. A's cellphone and immediately arrested him on the spot. A police official stated, "We are conducting forensic analysis on Mr. A's cellphone" and added that they are investigating the detailed circumstances of the incident.
Meanwhile, under current law, illegal filming crimes fall under Articles 14 and 15 of the Special Act, covering filming using cameras and attempts thereof. If found guilty, offenders may face imprisonment of up to five years or a fine of up to 50 million won. It is also specified that attempts are punishable, so caution is necessary.
