Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province will provide up to 1.5 million KRW for water pipe replacement costs to households where old water supply pipes cause rust-colored water to come out of the tap.
On the 18th, Seongnam City announced that it will invest 326 million KRW (including 50% provincial subsidy) this year in a project to improve old indoor water supply pipes. The city plans to support 310 households with this budget.
The support targets households using galvanized steel water pipes in houses over 20 years old and those that failed drinking water quality tests.
The subsidy amount depends on the total floor area of the house: ▲ up to 1 million KRW (80% of construction cost) for houses 60㎡ or less ▲ up to 800,000 KRW (50% of construction cost) for 61?85㎡ ▲ up to 600,000 KRW (30% of construction cost) for 86?130㎡.
Households receiving National Basic Livelihood Security benefits or belonging to the lower-income bracket will receive up to 1.5 million KRW regardless of house size.
Applicants must submit an application form, construction estimate, water quality test report, or photos of galvanized steel pipes either in person at the Water Facilities Division on the 5th floor of Seongnam City Hall or via email to the responsible department (swsd@korea.kr).
Lee Seong-jin, head of Seongnam City's Clean Water Management Office, said, "Last year, Seongnam supported 115 households with 92 million KRW for indoor old water pipe improvements. We are creating an environment where citizens can receive clear and clean tap water through annual construction cost support."
