The Naju City Public Health Center in Jeollanam-do is operating a smoking cessation clinic year-round to reduce the smoking rate among citizens and promote health.
According to the Naju City Public Health Center on the 17th, the smoking cessation clinic provides customized guidance on how to cope with withdrawal symptoms during a total of six months of smoking cessation.
It also supports smoking cessation patches and supplements to help people successfully quit smoking, and provides small souvenirs upon successful cessation.
An official from the Naju City Public Health Center said, “Smoking cessation is no longer just an individual smoker’s issue but is recognized as a problem that all members of society must work together to solve,” adding, “Since the satisfaction level of users of the smoking cessation clinic is high, we hope many smokers will visit.”
In fact, last year in Naju, 570 people registered, and 123 (21.6%) succeeded in quitting smoking for six months. That means one out of five people quit smoking.
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, “Smokers have at least 10 times (one pack a day) to 25 times (two packs a day) higher risk of developing lung cancer compared to non-smokers,” and added, “Since smoking cessation requires professional diagnosis and continuous management, we hope citizens who have resolved to quit smoking in the new year will seek help from the public health center’s smoking cessation clinic.”
Meanwhile, the city was selected as the best institution in the Jeollanam-do Integrated Health Promotion Project last year while promoting citizen health promotion projects such as the smoking cessation clinic.
