Jeju Maritime Police Station (Chief So Byung-yong) announced on the 17th that it has produced a comic titled "How to Obtain a Power Water Leisure Craft Operator License."
Jeju Maritime Police introduced the first story of water leisure safety encountered through comics, "How to Obtain a Power Water Leisure Craft Operator License," anticipating that many people will seek to acquire the license as part of their New Year's plans this year.
The Power Water Leisure Craft Operator License is a national qualification required to operate power water leisure crafts with a propulsion engine of 5 horsepower or more.
Eligibility requires being at least 14 years old (18 years or older for the first-class operator license), passing both the written and practical exams for the power water leisure craft operator license, and completing 3 hours of water safety education to obtain the license.
The power water leisure craft operator license is divided into first-class, second-class, and yacht licenses. The first and second-class general operator licenses allow operation of the same water leisure crafts, but those who want to become instructors or engage in water leisure business must obtain the first-class license, while those who want to enjoy general leisure activities can obtain the second-class license without issue.
The second-class power water leisure craft license and yacht license can be obtained without exams through paid exemption education, but the first-class operator license must be acquired by passing written and practical exams.
The written exam can be taken once a day at the Jeju Maritime Police Station PC test center (1st floor) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (10:00 AM to 3:00 PM), and on the first Saturday of every month (9:00 AM to 12:00 PM). By pre-registering online through the Water Leisure Comprehensive Information system, candidates can take the exam on their preferred date and time.
Practice test questions for the written exam can be printed from the Water Leisure Comprehensive Information system, and can also be borrowed at the Jeju Maritime Police Station Civil Service Office, Jeju Police Substation, Hallim Police Substation, and Jeju City Udang Library.
For the practical exam, candidates can take the test up to 18 times a year (once a month per category) at two locations: the Jeju Operator License Test Center (located in Iho-dong, Jeju City) and the Yacht Operator License Test Center (located in Dodu-dong, Jeju City).
For more details, inquiries can be made to the Water Leisure Division of Jeju Maritime Police Station or checked through the Water Leisure Comprehensive Information website.
Before (within 6 months) or after passing the operator license exam, candidates must complete 3 hours of water safety education and submit an application form for the power water leisure craft operator license to receive the license certificate.
A Jeju Maritime Police official stated, "In 2024, we will continue to produce and distribute comics on water leisure safety to promote a culture of water leisure safety. As part of proactive administration, we will continuously strive to realize administrative services that benefit the public."
