Ando-geol, the Democratic Party preliminary candidate for the Gwangju Dong-gu Nam-gu-eul constituency, held a "visiting policy meeting" on the 16th at Geumnam-ro Electronics Street in Dong-gu, Gwangju, where he exchanged opinions with resident small business owners on ways to revitalize the commercial district.
Former Vice Minister Ando-geol stated, "Geumnam-ro Electronics Street is shrinking due to the relocation of the bus terminal, the emergence of large electronics discount stores, and the increase in online shopping," adding, "Ultimately, the key issue is how to increase foot traffic."
He continued, "We plan to promote a project to attract domestic and international tourists and young people by creating a global cultural tourism town centered on the Asia Culture Center and establishing an AI Valley based at Chosun University, thereby revitalizing startups," and suggested, "If this project is implemented, the significantly increased foot traffic and the venture companies that have laid the foundation for startups can naturally flow into Electronics Street."
Small business owners, including Kim Jeom-su, the head of the merchants' association who attended the meeting, stated, "As customers decrease, the commercial district is shrinking more and more," and added, "Along with measures to secure foot traffic, it is necessary to build an electronics museum and renovate aging facilities, including wastewater treatment facilities."
Preliminary candidate Ando-geol emphasized, "I will closely consult with local governments and others to find solutions to the valuable opinions raised today," and stressed, "Small business owners themselves must continuously strive to keep up with the changes and trends of the times to achieve their goals."
