Daegu Office of Education to Establish 'Artificial Intelligence Education Center' with 2.7 Billion KRW ... Opening in November at Closed Sindang Middle School

The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kang Eun-hee) will establish a tentative "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Education Center" to nurture creative talents equipped with AI and digital capabilities utilizing artificial intelligence (AI), big data, XR, etc., and to create a systematic AI education environment.


The Office of Education plans to invest 2.7 billion KRW from the Ministry of Education's special grant into Shindang Middle School, which is scheduled to close on March 1, aiming to open the tentative AI Education Center in November.

The AI Education Center to be established will have its first floor developed as an AI complex family experience space called the AI Digital Family Experience Center, in collaboration with Daegu Dalseo District Office, where students and residents can experience AI and digital technologies together. The second floor will be designed as an AI Experience Zone where visitors can play and experience AI through autonomous driving experiences, AI creative playgrounds, and AI future classrooms.


Additionally, the third floor will serve as an AI Convergence Learning Center, where AI technology is integrated with science, mathematics, humanities, and arts to learn software-AI projects. The fourth floor will be an AI Exploration Center that operates AI camps and teacher training programs to develop AI and digital competencies. From the first to the fourth floors, various AI education programs tailored to different themes will be designed and operated.


Furthermore, the AI Education Center will design programs based on AI educational competencies that consider the developmental stages of students at each school level. AI-based convergence programs linked to the "2022 Revised Curriculum," which will be implemented starting this year, will be operated. It is expected to be widely utilized as a future AI education space for elementary, middle, and high school students in the Daegu area.


Kang Eun-hee, Superintendent of Daegu Education, stated, "With the establishment of the AI Education Center, we expect to nurture talents equipped with the capabilities needed in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era through systematic AI education linked to creative experiential activities, the free semester system, and the high school credit system." She added, "The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education will strive to ensure our students can lead the future society in line with the government's policy to nurture one million digital talents."
