Gyeongnam Province and Sacheon City Officially Launch Preparation Team for Aerospace Complex City Construction

Support for Construction of Self-Sufficient Complex Cities Including Industry, Research, and Education Linked with the Space Aviation Agency

The preparatory team for the construction of the Aerospace Complex City, which will become the home of the Korean version of NASA, the Aerospace Administration leading South Korea's space era, has officially launched.

On the 16th, Gyeongnam Province and Sacheon City held a plaque ceremony for the 'Aerospace Complex City Construction Preparatory Team' at Sacheon City Hall to ensure smooth preparation for the construction of the Aerospace Complex City and the successful opening of the Aerospace Administration.

The Aerospace Complex City Construction Preparatory Team was proactively formed at the Gyeongnam Province level to develop the surrounding cities where the Aerospace Administration will be established into self-sufficient cities equipped with complex functions such as industry, research, international exchange, education, and tourism.

Composed of 18 members including related departments of Gyeongnam Province and Sacheon City and experts from affiliated organizations, the team will carry out preliminary administrative procedures related to urban development, such as establishing the basic plan and vision for the complex city development and discovering tasks to improve living conditions.

The head of the team is the Deputy Governor for Economy of Gyeongnam Province, and the co-heads are the Director of the Industry Bureau of Gyeongnam Province and the Deputy Mayor of Sacheon City. The team plans to operate flexibly by expanding participating organizations as needed, considering the progress and roles.

They plan to discover projects that can be promoted first and propose them as government-funded projects in 2025, as well as engage in activities to gain cooperation from central government ministries such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to promote the construction of the Aerospace Complex City under government leadership.

On the day, after the plaque ceremony, the Aerospace Complex City Construction Preparatory Team held a kick-off meeting to recheck the preparations for the opening of the Aerospace Administration and share information with related organizations about the progress of the Aerospace Complex City construction.

They also had time to exchange opinions on the future operation plans and discussion topics of the Aerospace Complex City Construction Preparatory Team.

Park Dongsik, Mayor of Sacheon City, said, “We will join forces with Gyeongnam Province to support the Aerospace Administration thoroughly and embark on the full-scale construction of the Aerospace Complex City.”
