Gwangju University has resumed its overseas volunteer activities, which were halted due to COVID-19, after four years.
Led by Seodongju, Head of the Student Support Department, the 2nd Overseas Volunteer Group of Gwangju University, consisting of 22 students and faculty members, conducted global volunteer activities for ten days from January 3 to 12, 2024, the year of Gapjin, at an orphanage in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (with a capacity of about 150 children).
Organized by the Korea University Social Service Council (Daesahyeop) and Gwangju University’s University Innovation Project Group, this volunteer activity included hygiene education such as proper tooth brushing, hand washing, dietary habits, and waste separation, as well as diverse cultural exchanges like experiencing traditional Korean games, Taekwondo, K-POP, beauty and cosmetology, and the donation of supplies.
Seodongju, the team leader, stated, "The volunteer experience at the Vietnamese orphanage must have been an unforgettable opportunity to practice positive influence," adding, "We will strive to enable more enrolled students to cultivate the spirit of sharing, consideration, and communication through participation in such meaningful volunteer activities."
