"Tried to Overlook It"... 60s Security Guard Sues Teen Who Posted Assault Video

"Please punish the part where the video was uploaded"

Controversy arose online after a video showing a teenage student assaulting and knocking out a security guard in his 60s spread, and the security guard has since filed a complaint against the perpetrator. Initially, the security guard did not want to press charges, stating that he had received an apology from the student, but reportedly changed his stance after the video went viral.

The incident occurred around midnight on the 12th at a commercial building in Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi Province. At the time, high school student A assaulted B, a security guard in his 60s. The assault was recorded by A’s friend and posted on social media, which sparked public outrage among netizens who saw the video.

In an interview with 'JTBC' on the 15th, victim B said, "There was a holder for a parasol in front of the building, and some girls knocked it over and were playing around, so I told them not to do that because they might get hurt." However, while trying to stop the students, B got into an argument with A, which eventually escalated into a physical fight.

The police responded to reports from citizens who saw the video and arrived at the scene. After the assault, A reportedly told the police during questioning that "B hit me first, telling me not to smoke." Until then, B did not want to pursue punishment because he had received an apology from A. However, after learning that the video of his assault had spread online, he requested that the person who filmed and posted the video on social media be punished.

B said, "He’s like my grandchild, and since my grandchildren could also get into trouble somewhere, I was going to let it go. But while I was resting at home, the video appeared online and caused a big fuss. I felt embarrassed and wondered what good it would do to keep living like this."

Meanwhile, the police are considering applying defamation charges under the Information and Communications Network Act against the student who distributed the video. They are also reviewing the application of assault charges against A, considering that he assaulted B to the point of unconsciousness, which does not fall under the category of a crime that can be dropped by the victim.
