Former Jeonnam Education Superintendent Jang Man-chae Announces Departure from Democratic Party and Decision Not to Run in General Election Former Superintendent Jang Man-chae held a press conference at the Jeonnam Provincial Council and announced his withdrawal from the Democratic Party and his decision not to run in the general election.

He described his reason for leaving as “anger” and openly criticized, “When I joined the Democratic Party, I believed in former President Moon Jae-in’s sense of justice, but I became disillusioned when I saw that the reality was not justice for the people but a sinking into interests and power.”

He continued, “Former President Kim Dae-jung realized values he protected with his life. However, the current Democratic Party only chases interests and lacks integrity,” adding, “We need to change the structure that creates a new political frame for Jeonnam, where it’s like saying ‘Jeonnam, you must vote for me.’”

Furthermore, he said, “In the past, the older generation of parents had dignity in politics, but today’s politicians use harsh language that even street thugs wouldn’t use,” and “At this time of choosing new leaders, I believe someone must speak out clearly. I no longer want to participate in political elections.”

Regarding former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon, who is forming a new party, he said, “Former Leader Lee is a valuable human resource produced by Jeonnam,” and “I believe the reason he left the party was because he thought ‘politics should not be like this.’”

Jang said, “I cannot say for sure that I will join the new party, nor have I decided whether to join. However, if there is a place that is truly reformist and capable of realizing values, I want to help,” adding, “I will not run for a local constituency or the general election. I will only play a supporting role.”

He concluded, “From now on, I will not cling to positions but will serve the region,” and urged, “I ask politicians of the Republic of Korea to dedicate themselves with a resolve to live or die for the people.”
