Yeongam-gun WANGIN Cultural Festival Selected as '2024 Jeollanam-do Representative Festival'

MOCIE's Double Celebration Following Selection as 'Korea's Representative Cultural Tourism Festival'

Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Woo Seung-hee)'s representative local festival, the 'Yeongam Wangin Culture Festival,' has been selected as the '2024 Jeollanam-do Representative Festival,' securing 30 million KRW in provincial funding.

According to the county on the 16th, this recognition follows the selection as a '2024-2025 Korea Representative Cultural Tourism Festival' by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism at the end of last year, reaffirming its competitiveness once again.

This selection was made based on a comprehensive evaluation combining on-site assessments by the Jeonnam Festival Field Evaluation Team and presentation evaluations by the Festival Deliberation Committee. As a representative festival, Yeongam-gun will receive provincial support along with professional consultation on promotion, marketing, and improving hospitality readiness.

With support from Jeollanam-do, Yeongam-gun plans to conduct events encouraging national visits, attract foreign tourists, and promote tourism products and festivals.

Last year's 24th Wangin Culture Festival received praise for strengthening its nighttime programs through the installation of landscape lighting throughout the festival site, harmonizing shining tradition with new trends.

Additionally, Yeongam-gun aligned the festival period with the spring flower blooming season, offering healing and memories to 890,000 festival visitors.

Notably, the festival expanded from being person-centered to content-centered, confirming its potential to evolve further.

Based on this, Yeongam-gun plans to focus on the characters, letters, types, books, and values conveyed by Wangin from this year, presenting diverse content themed around humanities, environment, friendship, and exchange.

The festival will guarantee resident participation in planning and operation, increase enjoyable food options, and drive local economic revitalization.

We will prepare this year’s Wangin Culture Festival more meaningfully as a sustainable, competitive festival, an event driving the local economy, and a global ecological historical cultural festival enjoyed by people worldwide.”
