Excellent Facilities and Mild Weather Create Optimal Conditions
Soccer and Ssireum Teams from Across the Country Train Diligently
Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is heating up in the middle of winter with the nationwide enthusiasm for sports teams' training camps. In particular, many training teams are visiting due to excellent sports facilities and mild weather, making it a spotlight as an optimal training camp destination.
According to Sancheong-gun on the 16th, training teams from all over the country, including soccer and Ssireum (Korean wrestling), are sweating it out in Sancheong. Since the 2nd, 31 elementary and middle school soccer teams with 831 members, including Icheon Middle School and Ulsan Hakseong Elementary School, have been dedicating themselves to training with dreams of becoming future national soccer representatives.
They are intensifying their training for this season at Sancheong Public Stadium and Saengcho Soccer Field, enhancing their skills through friendly exchange matches.
On the 13th, County Governor Lee Seunghwa gave up his weekend to visit Saengcho Soccer Field and encourage the training teams. On the 10th, the Ssireum teams from Gyeongnam University and Dong-A University also came to Sancheong to start their training camps.
During the Ssireum teams' training camp, which runs until the 18th, they are honing their skills and preparing for the season by balancing performance improvement training and rest. On the 24th, 47 tennis players from six teams, including Myongji University, plan to visit Sancheong for their training camp.
As such, Sancheong-gun is becoming a mecca for training camps as many teams from across the country visit. This is attributed to excellent public sports facilities and mild weather even during the winter season.
In particular, Sancheong-gun's proactive sports marketing, along with active administrative support such as installing Mongolian tents and providing heaters during the winter training period, has played a significant role in facilitating smooth training for athletes.
Athletes, coaches, and visiting families unanimously say that the anti-aging healing facilities like Donguibogam Village and the excellent herbal medicine products produced locally help athletes rest and recover their strength.
Sancheong-gun has six soccer fields evenly distributed, centered around the 1st and 2nd grounds in Saengcho-myeon, the hometown of Park Hang-seo. In addition, it has secured an indoor dedicated Ssireum arena completed in 2020, as well as eight outdoor tennis courts and an indoor tennis court.
Sancheong-gun plans to conduct satisfaction surveys on the use of sports facilities for training camp participants to collect suggestions and complaints, aiming to provide better services and ensure that teams return to Sancheong.
A county official said, “Attracting training camps is not only an opportunity to widely promote Sancheong, the hometown of herbal medicine, but also greatly helps revitalize the local economy. We will continue to spare no support so that training teams visiting Sancheong can focus on their training.”
