Display Association Starts Patent Information Service..."Protecting Advanced Technology"

Service Starts from the 15th
Patent Information by Technology Provided to Member Companies

The Korea Display Industry Association announced on the 15th that it has established a patent information provision service to protect advanced technologies in the display industry and strengthen research and development (R&D) competitiveness.

The service was created to protect domestic advanced technology patent information and key research personnel at risk of unauthorized use.

The association plans to regularly provide member companies with global advanced technology patent information. This is to prevent technology leakage in the display sector and to check technology catch-up efforts.

According to an investigation by the National Intelligence Service, there were 104 cases of industrial technology leakage overseas detected over six years from 2018 to last year. The display sector accounted for 23 cases (22%). The total damage amounted to around 25 trillion won.

There has been an increase in attempts to steal technology through research personnel from small and medium-sized enterprises collaborating with large corporations. The methods have also become more sophisticated and diversified.

The association plans to provide not only regular reports on patent trends in the United States but also information on litigation status, rapidly growing companies, and the status of research personnel by advanced technology.

By providing information that companies cannot easily access and that requires protection and management, the association aims to offer customized support so that companies can proactively establish intellectual property protection strategies.

Lee Dong-wook, Vice Chairman of the Korea Display Industry Association, said, "The transition to advanced technology requires painstaking effort and time, so organizational-level responses to maintain and protect it are more important than anything else."

The association also stated that along with the patent information provision service, it plans to discover demonstration sites for extended reality (XR), automotive, and transparent consultative bodies launched last year, and to expand export support.
