"Police False Reporting... No CCTV Investigation Either"
Former senior spokesperson for the Democratic Party, Lee Kyung, announced, "I am currently filing a complaint against two police officers who filed charges of retaliatory driving against me." Earlier, Lee was sentenced to a fine on charges of retaliatory driving and was disqualified in the party's preliminary candidate screening for the general election.
On the 15th, Lee posted on his Facebook under the title "What are the Democratic Party's standards for eligibility and ineligibility?" He claimed, "During the first phone call with the police officers, I said, 'I neither drove nor remember driving. I will go to the police station immediately,' and this is recorded in the police and prosecution statements. However, the police falsely reported that I 'confessed' during the first call."
He added, "From the beginning of the investigation two years ago, I requested a closed-circuit television (CCTV) investigation since the date, time, and my home address were certain, and this is also documented in the police statements, prosecution statements, and trial records. If I had driven, how could I have requested a CCTV investigation? The police did not conduct a CCTV investigation," repeatedly expressing his grievance.
Lee also raised issues with the Democratic Party, stating, "The party's constitution and regulations that excluded candidates with a first-instance guilty verdict from nomination were deleted." He emphasized, "This deletion applies to other candidates but was not applied to me, Lee Kyung. What are the Democratic Party's standards for eligibility and ineligibility? Nearly 24,000 party members have signed a petition asking for the chance to choose Lee Kyung."
Meanwhile, Lee was indicted on charges of retaliatory driving on the evening of November 12, 2021, in a lane in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, and was fined 5 million won by the court last month. However, Lee maintains that the driver at the time was not himself but a designated driver. On the 29th of last month, he posted on Facebook, saying, "I have started visiting all 9,700 designated driver companies," and added, "No matter how unfair or difficult it is, I will do my best until the end" to prove his innocence.
