Suncheon City Offers 10% Discount for Early Payment of Environmental Improvement Charges

Reducing the Burden on Payers and Encouraging Voluntary Payment

Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that it will offer a 10% discount benefit for annual prepayment of the environmental improvement charge imposed on diesel vehicles.

The annual prepayment service is a system that allows owners of old diesel vehicles to pay the environmental improvement charge, which is imposed twice a year (March and September), in a lump sum in January at a 10% discounted rate.

This is implemented to reduce the burden on payers and encourage voluntary payment.

The target is owners of diesel vehicles subject to the environmental improvement charge registered with the city from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024.

Vehicle owners who prepaid last year will receive the annual prepayment notice this year without a separate application, and even if there are changes such as scrapping, cancellation, or address change after prepayment, payment is possible by prorating the holding period.

If payment is not made within the period after application, the annual prepayment application will be automatically canceled, and the 10% discount benefit cannot be received; the regular tax amount must be paid in March and September.

A city official said, “We expect that the 10% discount benefit of the environmental improvement charge annual prepayment service will reduce the burden on payers, and we hope many citizens actively utilize the annual prepayment system.”
