The Jeonju International Film Festival (Executive Committee Chairs Min Seong-wook and Jung Joon-ho) announced on the 15th that a record-breaking total of 747 films from 81 countries were submitted for the international competition category.

For the 15th Jeonju International Film Festival's international competition category, held from November 8 last year to the 3rd of this year, 747 films from 81 countries were submitted, an increase of 143 films compared to the 604 films submitted the previous year.

By continent, Asia had the highest number with 403 films, followed by Europe with 277, South America with 110, North America with 79, and Africa with 7. By country, Iran recorded the highest number with 110 films, followed by China with 85, India with 54, France with 46, and the United States with 44.

There were 435 feature films, 233 documentaries, 55 experimental films, 9 animations, and 15 films of other genres submitted. Compared to last year, feature films increased by 78, documentaries by 45, experimental films by 25, and animations by 3.

Jeon Jin-soo, programmer of the Jeonju International Film Festival, said, "The record number of submissions reflects the desire of young filmmakers, whose opportunities to showcase their work in theaters have decreased due to the emergence of various platforms, to be recognized through the film festival." He added, "We will introduce excellent works through fair and rigorous judging."

The 25th Jeonju International Film Festival will be held from May 1 to 10 in the Jeonju City Film Street area.
