Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City is gaining attention for resolving the long-standing wishes of residents in 16 natural villages in the Geon-guk district.
According to the district on the 15th, the "Geon-guk District Rural Village Sewage System Installation Project," which involved a total investment of 21.4 billion KRW including 14.4 billion KRW in national funds and 7 billion KRW in local funds, was completed in November last year, and a completion ceremony will be held on the 16th.
The completion ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on the day of the event in the main conference room of the Buk Gwangju Nonghyup headquarters, with about 100 attendees including Moon In, the mayor of Buk-gu, local members of the National Assembly, city and district council members, and residents. The ceremony will proceed with ▲ project progress report ▲ congratulatory speeches from internal and external guests ▲ commemorative photo session.
This project was first proposed in 2013 to address residents' inconveniences such as foul odors and water pollution caused by the lack of sewage systems in the natural villages within the Geon-guk district.
Accordingly, the district actively requested related agencies such as central government departments and Gwangju Metropolitan City to install village sewage systems, and as a result, it was finally selected as a Ministry of Environment national fund support project in 2014, securing momentum for project promotion.
Subsequently, until 2017, all preliminary procedures necessary for construction, including gathering residents' opinions, negotiating project funding, detailed design, and sewage system installation approval, were completed, and from 2018 until last year, the long-term construction spanning six years was successfully completed based on residents' cooperation.
Through this project, in the Geon-guk district, 16 natural villages including Yongjeon, Hasin, Ipam, Yonggang, Hakrim, Singi, Duchon, Jongbang, Ugok, Hakdong, Sinchon, Sugok, Danji, and Saengyong villages have been equipped with a newly installed 20.2 km sewage pipeline, 856 household drainage facilities, and 13 relay pumping stations.
Moon In, mayor of Buk-gu, said, "We will continue to prioritize improving residents' living environments and resolving their inconveniences as the top value of district administration, and we will carry out district governance that allows residents to feel positive changes in their daily lives."
