On the 15th, local media reported that a shooting took place on the previous day (14th) at a Starbucks located in Mandoricho, Shikokuchuo City, Ehime Prefecture, where a man in his 40s died. Police and firefighters who responded to a report of gunshots fired on the outdoor terrace found a 49-year-old man lying down, bleeding from his chest. He was immediately transported to the hospital. It was reported that he was unconscious when found, and although he was taken to the hospital, he ultimately passed away.

The police are investigating on the premise that a middle-aged man armed with a gun fired 3 to 4 shots at the deceased man and then fled the scene. There were other customers inside the Starbucks at the time, but no additional injuries have been reported. The police stated that they are treating the shooting as a homicide and are tracking the suspect based on witness testimonies and other evidence.

Meanwhile, Japan does not tolerate gun ownership and is one of the countries with the lowest rates of gun violence in the world. In 1958, Japan's Sword and Firearm Possession Control Law explicitly stated that "no one may possess firearms or swords." Gun ownership in Japan is so strict that it requires going through 13 steps, and laws regulating the number of gun shops are also stringent, making it practically difficult to purchase firearms in the country.
